FIFTEEN
Sammy stripped away all of his clothing and became totally nude in his bedroom. For a minute, he gazed at his image in the mirror. He was slim and brown, and he had a big, black dick that any woman would love to have in her life, but it was for men only. He stared at himself with a slight sadness in his eyes. He was lonely. He wanted companionship too. Khye had Floyd, and he had no one. He was different, but he was happy with himself. He wanted to be loved by someone like Khye had, but in Harlem, it was hard. It felt like being gay was a crime, and if it was, then Sammy planned on remaining a felon.
His last boyfriend had been a year ago. His name was Jonathan, and he was the only man Sammy ever loved. Jonathan was handsome, educated, and funny, and the sex between them was amazing. The only problem with Jonathan was that he was still trapped in the closet. Talking about coming out to his friends and family would lead to heated arguments. Jonathan was scared to let everyone know he was gay. Sammy was all out and proud of it, and he hated that he had to go sneaking around just to be with Jonathan. Their relationship lasted eight months, and Jonathan walked away, breaking Sammy’s heart.
Sammy puffed out and admired himself. “What man wouldn’t want some of this?” he said proudly.
He was picky with his relationships, knowing what he wanted. He also wanted a few surgeries done on himself, and that was money he didn’t have. Sammy was desperate to improve his image—a nose job, some butt implants, and a few minor adjustments he felt would make him so much more wanted. But he was so broke, he couldn’t pay attention, and selling cheap clothes with his alterations just wasn’t cutting it anymore.
While Khye had been led away to live her new life with Floyd, Sammy was still stuck in the ghetto, fighting for his sexuality and looking for the love of his life. Without Khye around, he spent more time in his room sewing and watching TV. On his bed were a few ladies’ outfits that he wanted to try on. He pranced around his bedroom putting together the right outfit and altering a few others. He had a few orders to fill, but they were nothing spectacular—just some ghetto hoes who wanted to look more ghetto.
Sammy started to work on a cotton dress that would look striking with one of his designs added to it. He pulled out his sewing kit and material and sat near his bedroom window. Gazing outside, he noticed Able and Jason hanging on the block, smoking, gambling and drinking. They owned the neighborhood and terrorized it with their drug selling, violence, and gang activity. Thinking back, Able had always been his father’s favorite. Even when Able thrust himself into a life of heavy crime and regular incarceration, their father still would chose Able over his younger gay son.
